A crusade against poverty and hunger through development projects of national value
He has campaigned for a number of schemes to generate employment and for the prosperity of the nation. Few of them are listed below:
Parambikulam - Aliyar Irrigation Project
This project (1961) costing Rs.40 crores has transformed the 2.5 lakh acres of Semi - arid tropical region of Pollachi, Udumalpet, Dharapuram and Palladam taluks into a granary.
Mini Hydro Power Stations on the downstreams of Mettur Dam
His proposals (1960) to have a series of Mini Hydro Power Stations in the down streams of Mettur Dam between Mettur Dam and Bhavani have been implemented to augment power generation by 120 MW. Further additions between Bhavani and Kodumudi and making Cauvery navigable between Nagapattinam and Mettur Dam with provision of lockers at the barrages for easy transportation of coal upto Mettur remain yet to be implemented.
Self Financing Irrigation Schemes
A scheme (1969) to bring an additional area of 10 lakh acres of land under irrigation by inter linking the river basics of Godhavari, Krishna, Pennar and Cauvery and transferring the surplus flood waters from one basin to the deficit basic to generate sustainable employment for one million rural people. The scheme envisages the take over of 30% of the dryland from each of the beneficiary farmers towards betterment fee to meet the capital cost of providing irrigation facilities. The market value of the dry land of Rs.1500 /- to Rs.2000 /- per acre will improve to Rs.10,000 /- to 20,000 /- per acre. When this scheme is implemented the national asset will enrich by Rs.1000 crores. The annual increase in agricultural products will be over Rs.1000 crores.
Self Financing Industrial Estates - A blue print for backward area
A proposal (1965) for establishment of a chain of 40 Self Financing Industrial Estates on the national high way between Trichy and Villupuram to bring in prosperity to the drought prone area by tapping water for industrial uses from the river Cauvery from Tiruchirappalli.
Urban development schemes on self financing basis
A proposal for Urban Development Scheme (1965) on self financing basis for development of infrastructural facilities on Stockholm models without strain to the common tax payer. Mahalingapuram Housing Complex and Jothi Nagar Housing Complex at Pollachi are standing example for such a scheme.
Micro Irrigation Systems for modernisation of Irrigation
The quantum of water used to irrigate one acre of land in the conventional system of flow irrigation will be sufficient to irrigate two acres with Sprinkler System and three acres with Drip system with an investment ranging from Rs.5000 /- to Rs. 12,000 /- per acre. He advocates long term soft loan assistance to the farmers to usher in agricultural prosperity.
Integrated Sugar - Alcohol - Paper Complexes
He has identified and assessed that Indian Sugar Industry can generate a Gross Domestic product of Rs.54,000 crores when its potentials are properly developed.
Tamilnadu - Strategies for development
He has identified that Tamilnadu can emerge encompassing within it one Taiwan, two Israels, one Denmark and one Singapore when her basic resources are properly harnessed. The per capital income and the standard of living of our people can be improved to the level of the people in those countries.
Sanskrit as official language which has served as cultural language over the years
Sanskrit deserves to be an official language and can effectively promote national integration and culture.
Mother tongue as medium of Education
He strongly advocates regional language as a medium of instructions upto degree level including Professional courses.
Five gas based power plants of 2000 MW capacity each for Tamilnadu
The strategy (1989) to set up five 2000 MW Power plants each on the coastal lines between Madras and Turicorin utilising the LNG from domestic as well as Foreign sources and utilising the capital and technology from industrialised countries viz; Japan, Canada, Germany, England and USA with least gestation period.
Indian Ocean Economic Community
He has advocated for formation of IOEC as early as 1975 to empower India emerge as an economic power making full use of her resource base and strategic advantages.
